Transport packages
The institute conducts research, prepares expert opinions and issues certification for packages and packaging materials intended for the transport of dangerous goods under the UN mark. Testing for certification purposes is carried out in accordance with the requirements set out in international agreements and conventions on land transport (ADR, ADN, RID), sea transport (IMDG Code) and air transport (IATA-DGR).
Organising transport in accordance with international rules for the transport of dangerous goods guarantees that the likelihood of hazards posed by dangerous cargo is minimised. A package is an important element of the logistics chain, ensuring the safe transport of dangerous goods, but only when it meets a whole range of specific requirements.
In order to confirm that the package meets the requirements for use in the transport of dangerous goods, tests are carried out in the accredited Laboratory for Testing of Transport Packages, simulating the mechanical exposures encountered during the transport, storage and handling of cargo.
We test the following packages:
- Transport packages
- Large packages
- and intermediate bulk containers (IBCs)
Obtaining a positive test result is the basis for granting certification for packages and entitles the holder to affix the international UN marking required by law to certified packages.
