Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology
It was established on April 1, 2022, from the merger of three Lodz institutes operating in the Lukasiewicz Research Network:
Łukasiewicz – Institute of Biopolymers and Chemical Fibres
Łukasiewicz – Institute of the Leather Industry
Łukasiewicz – Textile Research Institute
The head office is located at Maria Sklodowska-Curie Street 19/27 in Lodz.
Lukasiewicz – ŁIT has large scientific and research facilities, specialized equipment, conducts research and implements innovative technological solutions. The unit has modern research and development centers, accredited laboratories and an experimental and production plant. The institute also certifies textile, leather, paper and packaging products.
One of the main objectives of Łukasiewicz – ŁIT is to foster collaboration between academia and industry. The institute is constantly building a network of contacts, and actively participates in industry meetings, trade fairs and scientific conferences. The consolidation of Lodz’s Lukasiewicz institutes has contributed to the development of innovative solutions compatible with the textile industry, especially in the areas of closed-loop economy, biomedicine and digitization of technology.
Lukasiewicz – LIT is part of the Lukasiewicz Research Network, the third largest research network in Europe. It is an integrated market player providing attractive, complete and competitive business and technology solutions in the areas of chemistry, packaging, ICT, materials and advanced manufacturing.
The mission of the Łódź Institute of Technology
It is the conduct of innovative research and development activities that support the development of modern technologies and their implementation in industry. Our patron
Ignacy Łukasiewicz
The patron of our research network is Ignacy Lukasiewicz.
Born in 1822 in Zaduszniki – Polish pharmacist, entrepreneur, social and patriotic activist, philanthropist and pioneer of the oil industry.
1852
Łukasiewicz, together with Jan Zeh, conducted the world's first scientific oil distillation.
1853
The first operation under artificial light was performed in a Lviv hospital. It was Ignacy Łukasiewicz’s kerosene lamp.
1854
n partnership with Tytus Trzecieski, Łukasiewicz established the first oil mine in Bóbrka near Krosno.
1856
Founded the world's first oil refinery in Ułaszowice near Jasło.
2022
Sejm RP ogłosił 2022 Rokiem Ignacego Łukasiewicza.

Distinction
HR Excellence in Research
Instytut otrzymał tytuł ‘HR Excellence in Research’.
The European Commission awards this prestigious honor to institutions that provide research staff with favorable working conditions – guaranteeing a transparent recruitment process, stability of employment, opportunities for career development, as well as substantive and financial support in acquiring and implementing research projects.
The right to use the distinction “HR Excellence in Research” confirms compliance with the requirements of the European Charter for Researchers, which sets out the rules for the employment of researchers, the working conditions to be guaranteed to them and the opportunities for development. This document forms the basis of the European Union’s policy aimed at promoting scientific research and making a career in science more attractive.
Through the implementation of the Lukasiewicz Charter, LIT contributes to the development of an open and attractive science market for research personnel in the European Research Area. Institutions that hold the distinction of ‘HR Excellence in Research’ are systematically evaluated to maintain the standards adopted by the European Commission.
The principles of the Charter correspond to the scientific and research and personnel policies pursued by Lukasiewicz – LIT. The goal is to increase the attractiveness of the Institute’s offer to employees involved in scientific research by providing them with favorable working conditions, improving the quality of scientific research and innovation, and increasing international mobility.
