The Biodegradation and Microbiological Testing Laboratory conducts research work and provides commercial services in the field of assessing the susceptibility of a wide range of products, materials to microbiological decomposition. Among the samples tested are products of the packaging industry, plastics, textiles, nonwovens, hydrogels, everyday products, cosmetic products, disposable products and many others. Since 2010, the laboratory has been accredited with accreditation certificate No. AB 388, in accordance with PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02. The laboratory conducts tests:

Accredited:

  • Biodegradability (biological decomposition) in soil, compost, water environments
  • Ecotoxicity (evaluation of the effect of material decomposition on the microbiological activity of the substrate)

Unaccredited:

  • Compostability (industrial, household conditions) based on international standards (EN 13432; EN 14995)
  • disintegration PN-EN ISO 20200, 14806
  • Biodegradability in an aqueous medium (OECD 301B)
  • Geosynthetics – method for determining microbiological resistance by soil placement test. (EN 12225)
  • CO2 release tests according to OECD 301 B
  • CO2 release test according to OECD 301 B guidelines
  • Determination of TOX and TX indicators based on PN-ISO 11480:2002 “Pulp, paper and board – Determination of total chlorine and organically bound chlorine”
  • Determination of AOX index based on PN-EN ISO 9562:2007 “Water quality – Determination of adsorbable, organically bound halogens (AOX)”.
  • elemental analysis of C, N, H, S
  • Biodegradability in the soil environment (ISO 17556)

Based on the test results obtained, it is possible to obtain a certificate: “Biodegradable Product” or “Compostable Product” issued by COBRO’s Paper Products and Packaging Certification Department.

MICROBIOLOGY

The Biodegradation and Microbiological Testing Laboratory performs microbiological testing for companies operating in the textile, medical, polymer, paper, military, furniture and packaging industries. The laboratory has been certified by the Polish PCA Accreditation Center in the scope of AB 388 since 2002, and is the longest-established unit on the Polish market providing services in the field of microbiological testing of textiles, polymers, paper and cardboard. It is the only one in Poland that performs, within the scope of PCA accreditation, tests of microbiological activity and resistance to mold of textiles and microbiological purity of paper and cardboard. It is also a unique laboratory in the country, performing tests in the field of evaluation of textile medical products: surgical gowns, surgical drapes, disposable and reusable clothing for operating theater personnel – in the section on microbiological testing and dust resistance of these products.

Accredited tests

  • PN-EN ISO 20743:2021-12 Textiles Determination of antimicrobial activity of finished products with antimicrobial finish – Absorption method
  • PN-EN ISO 20645:2006 Determination of antibacterial activity. Diffusion method
  • PN-EN 14119:2005 pt 10.5 (B2) Antifungal activity – Diffusion test on agar – Visual evaluation
  • NO-06-A107:2021 p.4.14, p.5.17 Resistance to the effects of mold according to the defense standard for weapons and military equipment
