Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology

It was established on 1 April 2022 through the merger of three Łódź-based institutes operating within the Łukasiewicz Research Network:

Łukasiewicz – Institute of Biopolymers and Chemical Fibers
Łukasiewicz – Institute of Leather Industry
Łukasiewicz – Institute of Textile Technology

Its headquarters are located at ul. Maria Skłodowska-Curie 19/27 in Łódź.

Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology has extensive scientific and research facilities, specialised equipment, conducts research and implements innovative technological solutions. In the unit there operate modern research and development centres, accredited laboratories and an experimental and production plant. The institute also certifies textile, leather, paper and packages.

One of the main objectives of Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology is cooperation between science and business. The institute is constantly building a network of contacts and actively participates in industry meetings, trade fairs and scientific conferences. The consolidation of Łódź-based institutes of Łukasiewicz has contributed to the development of innovative solutions compatible with the textile industry, particularly in the areas of circular economy, biomedicine and digital transformation of technology.

Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology belongs to the Łukasiewicz Research Network, the third largest research network in Europe. It is an integrated market player providing attractive, comprehensive and competitive business and technological solutions in the fields of chemistry, the packaging industry, ICT, materials and advanced manufacturing.

The mission of the Łódź Institute of Technology

is to conduct innovative research and development activities that support the development of modern technologies and their implementation in industry. The Institute places great emphasis on the quality of education, preparing highly qualified specialists in the fields of technology, engineering and exact sciences. It strives to create strong links between science and industry, as well as to support sustainable development and the development of a knowledge-based economy.

Through cooperation with domestic and international partners, the institute aims to create innovations that contribute to technological and social progress.

Our Patron

Ignacy łukasiewicz

The patron of our research network is Ignacy Łukasiewicz.
Born in 1822 in Zaduszniki, he was a Polish pharmacist, entrepreneur, social and patriotic activist, philanthropist, and pioneer of the oil industry.

1852

Łukasiewicz, together with Jan Zeh, conducted the world's first scientific oil distillation.

1853

The first operation under artificial light was conducted in Lviv Hospital using Ignacy Łukasiewicz's kerosene lamp.

1854

n partnership with Tytus Trzecieski, Łukasiewicz established the first oil mine in Bóbrka near Krosno.

1856

Founded the world's first oil refinery in Ułaszowice near Jasło.

2022

The Polish Parliament declared 2022 as the Year of Ignacy Łukasiewicz.

The award ‘HR Excellence in Research’

The Institute has been awarded the title of ‘HR Excellence in Research’.
The European Commission grants this prestigious award to institutions that provide favourable working conditions for research workers, guaranteeing a transparent recruitment process, job stability, opportunities for development of a professional career, as well as substantive and financial support in acquiring and implementing research projects.

The right to use the “HR Excellence in Research” award confirms compliance with the requirements of the European Charter for Researchers, which sets out the principles of employment for researchers, the working conditions that must be guaranteed to them, and opportunities for development. This document forms the basis of the European Union’s policy aimed at promoting scientific research and making a scientific career more attractive.
By implementing the Charter, Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology contributes to the development of an open and attractive science market for researchers in the European Research Area. Institutions that have been awarded by the ‘HR Excellence in Research’ are systematically evaluated in terms of maintaining the standards adopted by the European Commission.

The principles of the Charter correspond to the scientific, research and human resources policy pursued by Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology. The aim is to increase the attractiveness of the Institute’s offer for employees involved in scientific research by providing them with favourable working conditions, improving the quality of scientific research and innovation, and increasing international mobility.
