Akio Miyajima, who was Japan’s ambassador to Poland until autumn of the last year, visited the Łódź Voivodeship. During his visit to the Łódź Institute of Technology, he said that he sees potential in the field of international cooperation.
It has been eight months since I returned to Japan. During this time, I spoke with representatives from several companies that are interested in investing in Łódź. I am trying to get Japanese companies interested in the Łódź region and willing to invest in the Łódź Special Economic Zone, said Akio Miyajima.
Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, rector of the Łódź University of Technology, who was present at the meeting, announced that research in agreement with academies in Japan would soon commence at the University of Technology.
This concerns dual-use technologies, i.e. those used for both civilian and defence purposes for Poland and Japan. The cooperation is very close and very advanced, said Prof. Jóźwik.
The day before (on Monday, 28 July), he met with entrepreneurs and local government officials from the area of just transition in Bełchatów, Wieluń and Radomsko. He familiarised himself with the investment offer of the local governments.
I am very pleased that the ambassador has the opportunity to talk and learn about the activities of the Łódź University of Technology and the Łódź Institute of Technology, because this is the future when it comes to the development of economy of our Voivodeship, emphasised Piotr Wojtysiak, deputy marshal of the Łódź Voivodeship. We talked about the challenges facing the Łódź Voivodeship. This is primarily a matter of energy transformation, but also the economic transformation of our region. Japanese companies account for a significant share of foreign investments in the Łódź Voivodeship. The second largest source of capital in the Voivodeship is Japanese capital, and we very much hope that thanks to the ambassador’s presence, we will strengthen the position of the Łódź Voivodeship among investors in Japan.
