Safe for Children
A certificate authorising the marking of a product with the “Safe for Children”® mark may be granted to products intended for children over 12 months of age that meet requirements regarding raw material composition, care, construction and use, flame resistance, labelling and marking, packaging and storage, as well as specific requirements.
The certificate may be granted for the following groups of finished products:
Group A
(products made of at least 75% cotton):
- personal underwear
- bed linen
- household linen (e.g. nappies, baby wraps, towels)
Group B:
- outerwear
- headwear
- garments
- diaper pants
- hosiery
- duvets, pillows, cushions, mattresses
- clothing accessories (suspenders, reins)
- decorative products (curtains, drapes)
- upholstery fabrics
- textiles intended for toys
- textiles intended for childcare products
- yarns and flat textile materials intended for the manufacture of the products above
Group C:
- leathers
- leather products (stroller inserts, footwear, slippers, accessories)
Specific Requirements
Arising from the REACH Regulation:
- Permissible content of free or releasable formaldehyde
- Prohibition of azo dyes
- Permissible emission levels of volatile compounds from textile interior furnishing elements
- Permissible phthalate content
- Permissible content of heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Hg, As, Ni, Cr, Cr VI)
- Absence of substances and mixtures (pentachlorophenol, organotin compounds, polychlorinated biphenyls or terphenyls, TEPA, TRIS, PBB)
- Absence of carcinogenic and allergenic dyes
and:
- Prohibition of chlorine-based bleaching agents
- Permissible colour fastness values
- pH of aqueous solution or extract in artificial sweat
- Absence of odours of fungi, mould, fish, petroleum products, perfumes
- Prohibition of biocidal and flame-retardant finishes
- Water vapour permeability and water vapour resistance coefficient, water absorption and desorption (hygienic requirements for footwear)

Complaints regarding the activities of the Textil-Cert Certification Department and any actions performed during the certification process, as well as appeals against decisions taken by the Certification Department, may be submitted to the Director of Łukasiewicz-ŁIT in accordance with procedure CP-05 “Complaints and Appeals” (available upon request).
